History

Mr. L.P. Michelsen started this company in 1937 to distribute packaging materials to fruit packers located in the Yakima Valley, beginning what has been a long, loyal, and successful relationship with the agricultural business in the Yakima Valley and beyond. We are here today because of the leadership tradition started long ago by L.P. Michelsen, a tradition based on customer service, a strong commitment to our employees, and continued company growth.

Jeanette and I started growing apples in 1949 with just ten acres. Within ten years we had expanded to sixty acres and built our first packing facility. Our philosophy has always been to oversee every operation, from pollination to shipping, to ensure the best quality fruit for our customers. We expect that same level of commitment from our suppliers. Michelsen Packaging and Sims Manufacturing make every effort to deliver the best in equipment, supplies, and service.

“We have used products from Michelsen Packaging and Sims Manufacturing for a long time. When the Premium Pad Pak was introduced, we recognized it as the best way to pack fragile, bruise susceptible varieties like Golden Delicious. Once the carton is compressed and strapped, each apple is held immobile, protected from the jostling that occurs in transit. We still Pad Pack today.

“Equipment from Sims Manufacturing is the best, and, with three modern packing facilities, we have a lot of it. The Sims case sealers, baggers, and printing systems stand up to the rigors of a high speed operation like ours. Michelsen Packaging provides us with the tray denesters and pad inserters, also made by Sims Manufacturing. When we need supplies or service, they are available days, nights, and weekends.

“Michelsen Packaging and Sims Manufacturing have proven their dedication to the success of Evans Fruit and we value the quality and integrity they bring to the partnership.”
